The Final D of E expedition assessment weekend
8:55 pm
Hello my lovelies!,
As I write this blog post I am curled up in my duvet watching TV while my whole body aches to death. Yes my chumeleans I survived two days of painful walking all for my D of E expedition. There was tears, laughter, anger and frustration however most our group did make it to our end checkpoint all in one piece. However we did lose two of our teammates in the process due to injury. I am so proud of myself for just sticking at it and not giving up. I have lost count of the number pep talks I had to give to Sian in order to get her out of quitting! We started as 6 and ended as 4 however everyone really came together and worked as a team.
I learnt a lot about myself over those two days and discovered that
giving up is never an option that I am willing to take. I also learnt how to
work as a team more effectively as on day one lets just say there were lots of
arguments as we were not listening to each other! Learning to work as a team is
hard, especially when you are with people who you are not necessarily friends
with however the more practice you get the easier it becomes.
The second day however was brutal to be honest as it was every man for himself
meaning if you where injured you were slowing the group down meaning we where
behind. They had to make the choice of dropping out or carrying on and feeling
guilty that we where really late to our checkpoints. Unfortunately this meant
two of our members had to drop out. But if there is one lesson to learn from all of this it is that
horsefly's are pure evil! Everyone was dreading the walking part as everyone got
really bad blisters on our practice expedition but the horsefly's were 100 times
worse! They were everywhere and were constantly biting us on our arms and legs
which is okay for someone like me who when bitten gets a small dainty red spot
but what about for someone with seriously sensitive skin like my poor chummy
Sian? For her she ended up with both her legs blotchy with bites the size of
tennis balls. They were really out to get her every time we walked down tiny
narrow country alleyways and in long grass!
So that was my weekend of interesting emotions and I had an amazing time with Sian and we even made up a new inside joke in the process! (Do I know you?) I hope you enjoyed this
lovely insight into doing a D of E expedition and how it wasn't that bad in the end!
Toodlepip x
*Update: 22nd July - I now know if I have passed and I did along with Sian and my other teammates!*
