Hello bloggerbeans,
Today's post is slightly different. I want to talk about a topic very close to my heart which is Mental Health. It is something that unfortuantly is still a taboo subject and it should not be. Mental health is such a broad subject so a number of blogposts will be dedicated to making sure people are aware of Mental Health.
I want you to imagine you are in a swimming pool, floating on the surface. You look around and suddenly everyone has disappeared and your swimming on your own veering towards the middle of the pool. You look underneath and all you can see is dark blue water. You slowly begin to tire while swimming but seem to can't get out of the pool. You are trapped in the middle of the pool by yourself and your legs become heavy as if something is weighing you down, forcing you to sink. You have three options:
1. Shout and call for help
2. Attempt to swim to the edge and struggle, tiring yourself even more.
3. Just wait until someone throws out a rubber ring to help you float.
The best option is to wait but this is dangerous. The more you wait without anyone coming to help, increases your chances of drowning. You need to shout for help and tell someone how you are feeling. By doing this someone will listen and help you slowly swim back to the edge and get out of this metaphorical pool of thoughts that are drowning you.
The horrible thing is that I have been in this metaphorical pool and its horrible. The worst thing for me is when people do come to the pool and you can hear them laughing and having fun and you try so hard to reach out and shout but they don't see you drowning and mistake it for just a swim.
THIS IS DEPRESSION AND YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FACE IT ALONE.
Depression is something that creeps up on you when you least expect it. You do not know what has happened until its too late and the depression becomes your every waking thought. Breaking the cycle is tough and recovery is even tougher but is worth it. Everyday I see how far I have come and it outstands me.
